How to Use a Tesla Supercharger With a Non-Tesla EV

Which brands can use Tesla Superchargers, which adapter you need, how to pay in the Tesla app, and the etiquette that keeps everyone charging.

Updated October 12, 2026 · 6 min read

Short answer: most of the 3,572 Supercharger locations (43,309 stalls) in our directory can now charge other brands. You need a car with a NACS port or your automaker's approved NACS adapter, and the Tesla app to start and pay.

Which cars can use Superchargers?

Access is granted brand by brand as automakers finish software and adapter testing. By 2026 that includes Ford, GM (Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac), Rivian, Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Polestar, Lucid, Honda, Acura, Toyota, Lexus, BMW, Jaguar and others. New models increasingly have a NACS port built in, so no adapter is needed.

Step by step

  1. Get the right adapter if your car has a CCS1 port. Use the one your automaker supplies or approves.
  2. Install the Tesla app, create an account and add a payment method. Add your vehicle so the app knows your car's charging limits.
  3. Check the site. On ChargePulse, Superchargers listed as Tesla-only carry a "Tesla vehicles only" label (1,008 locations right now). Older V2 stalls generally do not support other brands.
  4. Pick the stall. Supercharger cables are short and designed for a Tesla's rear-left port. You may need to park across a neighbouring stall's space or choose an end stall.
  5. Start in the app, plug in and charge. Unplug and move as soon as you are done to avoid idle fees.

Etiquette that keeps it working for everyone

  • If your port position forces you to block a second stall, choose an end stall or a quiet time.
  • Stop at 80% when others are waiting. The last 20% is slow.
  • Do not use a stall if it means the cable is stretched or strained.

Find a Supercharger

Every state and province with Superchargers has its own list, for example California, Texas, Florida and Ontario. Each station page shows stall count, maximum power and whether other brands are allowed.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a Tesla account to Supercharge a non-Tesla EV?

Yes. You start and pay for sessions in the Tesla app, which works without owning a Tesla. Some automakers also integrate Supercharger access into their own apps.

Is Supercharging more expensive for non-Tesla drivers?

Usually a little, unless you buy Tesla's monthly membership, which brings the per-kWh price close to what Tesla owners pay.

Can I use any NACS adapter?

Use the adapter your automaker approves or supplies. Cheap unapproved adapters may not be rated for high DC current and can be unsafe.
